In addition to what is listed below there are two guides that further clarify role permissions:

Course sites

  • Instructor: Instructors have full permissions throughout the site, including the ability to publish the site and set its global access. Instructors can read, revise, delete, and add both content and participants to a site.
  • Head GSI: Can read, write, and edit most areas of the site; has full Gradebook and Section Info privileges
  • GSI: Can read, add, and revise most content in their sections.
  • Student: Students can read content, and add content to a site where appropriate.
  • Dept. Delegate: Can read most material in the site, can post announcements, course resources, and discussion messages, and add participants.
  • Librarian: Can contribute to the Resources, Discussion, Quiz & Survey, and Wiki tools
  • Guests: Can read most materials on the site; the gradebook is not available to guests.

Info: The guest role has nothing to do with whether or not someone is a guest to UCB. A guest to UCB has a guest account and can have any role, while at the same time any non-guest account individual at UCB can be given a guest role in a particular site.

Project sites

  • Maintain: The Maintain role has full permissions throughout the site, including the ability to publish the site and set its global access. The Maintain role can read, revise, delete, and add both content and participants to a site
  • Member: Can read, add, revise, and delete content to a site
  • Access: The Access role can read content and add content to a site where appropriate.

Determining your role

To find out what your role is, follow the instructions below:

  1. From My Workspace, click Worksite Setup.
  2. You will see a list of the sites to which you belong.
    • If there is a checkbox next to the name of the site, you may check the box and clickEdit. On this screen you will see a list of the site's members. Next to the members' names, you will see a drop-down menu that shows the role.
    • If there is not a checkbox next to the name of the site, your role is limited to merely accessing and participating in the site; you do not have full permissions. While you are still a member of that site, you cannot change your role or that of others.
